Welcome to HIS!

11th August 2014

Dear Parents,

Welcome back and welcome to new parents and families.  My name is Lisa Hughes and I am the new Head of Elementary at H.I.S.  Some of you may know me from last year as the Grade 5 teacher and PYP Coordinator.

I would like to welcome our new teachers to the Elementary school.  Mr Neil Johnstone will teach grade 5 and is the new PYP Coordinator, Mr Rob will teach grade 3 and Ms Louise will be the new Reception teacher.  The Extra Learning Support team is new this year and joining the team are Ms Yana, Ms Jess and Ms Laura.  Mr Grant will teach music across the school and will be responsible for the organization of the After School Music programme.  We would also like to welcome Ms Thao a new teacher assistant working with Ms Annie in Grade 2.

Homeroom teachers will inform you of more details and requirements for their class.  Should you have any questions about the first week, please ask your child’s homeroom teacher.

Monday 25th and 26th August will be Parent Teacher Conferences.  This will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s homeroom teacher.  More information about this will be sent home closer to the date.

Tuesday 19th August will be Open night, all parents are invited to HIS to discover more about grade level team expectations.  The event will start at 5.30

Lunches will be served by Donkey Bakery in the cafeteria and students are more than welcome to bring in their own food.  The lunches work on a voucher system, menus can be found on the school website, www.hisvietnam.com.  For the first day your child can bring in cash to buy vouchers or their own food.

Please bring water bottles and hats for children that are clearly labeled.  Stationary lists have been created by teachers and each child will be given their own stationary.  Prices will be sent home on Monday, when you receive the list please bring in the money and give it your child’s homeroom teacher.  PE uniforms can be purchased at the shop.  The length of classes has extended by 5 minutes and students are expected to be in school at 7.45.  Dismissal will be at 2pm until Co-Curricular Programmes begin, when school will finish at 3pm.

The school nurse has asked me to inform you that because of the recent breakout of Ebola , should your child have a fever please keep them at home.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for making H.I.S their school of choice.  I wish you all a pleasant year.
