There are 2 Grade 4 classes this year, 4A and 4P. Mr Adam H. and Ms Pushpa are the homeroom teachers.
This year, Ms. Pushpa is the grade 4P teacher. She has been at HIS for more than 8 years and has experience teaching different grade levels. Ms. Pushpa is assisted by Ms. Thao who is a very helpful and experienced assistant.
4P consists of students from America, Singapore, India, Vietnam, Japan and Korea. The students are encouraged to work together as a family, displaying all the Learner profile and PYP attitudes. They are taught to be confident in their ability as learners, having the courage to take risks, applying what they have learned and making appropriate decisions and choices.
The students learn through structured inquiry by being exposed to various engaging, relevant and challenging activities. This is done through literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, arts and personal, social and physical education. 4P is supported by various specialists teachers such as the music, physical education, art, EAL and Vietnamese teachers.
4P is challenged to be active, compassionate and lifelong learners.

Welcome to Grade 4A! We have 14 students from a range of nationalities including South Korean, Japanese, United Kingdom, Vietnamese and Italian. Their teacher this year helping them on their learning journey is Mr. Adam, he is new to HIS and comes from Perth, Australia. He has previously taught at schools in Australia, United Kingdom and Russia. Ms. Huong is our full-time assistant who has a great deal of experience with HIS supporting the students to achieve their maximum potential.
They are developing into thinkers, risk-takers, communicators and globally-minded learners. Each unit is shared with Grade 4A in a transparent manner so that the students take ownership and are accountable for their learning. Reflection is an important process to reinforce the skills attained and developed. The students are expected to further develop their self-management skills and be more independent as the year progresses.
The students have a range of specialist subjects; Vietnamese, Arts, Physical Education and Music. In Grade 4A EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners join pull-out classes and are given extra learning support (ELS) to bridge the challenges on learning a new language. We believe that visible thinking, differentiation and experiential learning are key aspects of learning and this is continually practised in class. We learn in a wide variety of contexts with individual, paired, grouped and whole class taking into account the students’ different abilities and learning styles.
The classroom is located at the 3rd floor, room 3.6. The classroom has different learning stations to promote inquiry, ICT, reading and math. Students are able to access a variety of technology, furniture, toys, instructional materials and books to support different methods of inquiry. The class practices and reflects upon empathy, tolerance, respect, co-operation and appreciation to encourage a healthy class environment.
Come and say hi (or g’day) to Grade 4A sometime!!!!!!
