Spring Carnival – Invitation update

The PTA and CAS students (with support of the Student Council) will organize our annual Spring Carnival, a charity event, on Friday, March 27. On this evening, we will have food vendors, games and activities, entertainment, a raffle draw and an auction. If you were here last school year, you may recall attending a similar event, which benefited Operation Smile. The event raised over US$ 3000 thanks to the generous time and donations that our community put forth.

Proceeds to this year’s event will go to the Blue Dragon Foundation. Since 2003, The Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation has been helping children in crisis, providing services to street children such as education, nutrition, health care, counseling, physical and creative activities, rescue, legal advocacy and safe shelter. You can see more about their organization and their worthy causes at www.bluedragon.org. For example, in March 2015 they rescued 56 victims of Human Trafficking.

To support our CAS students to reach their goal of raising money, we are relying on the help of the families in our school by asking you to donate an item that is worthy of being raffled or auctioned off, or a monetary donation. To add incentive and make it fun, your child will receive a point toward their House (Dragon, Gecko, Buffalo) when they turn in their contribution. The winning house will be given a special treat sponsored by the PTA.

Deadline for submission of your donations is on March 24.

If you have questions you can contact one of the parent representatives (English, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese speaking). Their names and contact details can be found in the attached letters.

Attached letters: VietnameseKoreanEnglish.

During the evening, we will also have performances from 6 pm onwards and are now looking for acts within the community. If you or any of your family members would like to perform, please contact Grade 11 student, Emily. You can find her contact details in the attached letters.

Entrance tickets for the Spring Charity event is VND 50,000 per adult and VND 20,000 per child. We thank you in advance for your support and hope to see you there.

PTA-coffee morning and PTA-meeting

Did you know about the PTA-coffee mornings and the PTA-meetings? Both are PTA-organized monthly events. While the coffee-mornings are purely informal, the meetings are more formal.

The Friday before each PTA-meeting we organize a coffee-get-together. The aim of the coffee-get-together is purely social: meeting other parents, chatting, discussing, making friends, asking questions to other parents,… enjoying a coffee, a latte, or why not a nice piece of cake? The next two coffee-get-togethers are planned on:

  • Friday March 6 at 08:45 a.m. at Joma (next to the school)
  • Friday April 3 at 08:45 a.m. (place to be decided – suggestions welcome)

You are most welcome to come and enjoy the nice relaxed coffee-get-together atmosphere.

The PTA meetings are usually scheduled on the second Thursday of the month. These are more formal meetings with a fixed agenda. During the meetings we discuss issues related to the school.  If you want to contribute to the well-being of the school, you are most welcome to join us. The next meetings are scheduled on:

  • Thursday March 12 at 15:15 in the HIS-library
  • Thursday April 9 at 15:15 in the HIS-library

Am I a member of the PTA?

Before answering this, let us start with another question: “Are you a parent, a guardian or a teacher?” If you said yes to this question, we will answer yes to the original title question.

In fact, all HIS parents/guardians and teachers are members of the PTA.

From the PTA charter: “The members of the PTA consist solely of parents of students currently enrolled at the HIS, the entire faculty and school administration.  Membership is automatic…

So what are the objectives of the PTA? Once again we take a look at the PTA charter:

  • To provide a continuing channel of communication and to promote an atmosphere of goodwill and cooperation within HIS
  • To provide the HIS community with fun and family-friendly activities and celebrations throughout the year

If you have any interest in getting active in the PTA – this year or next year – let us know (email: pta@hisvietnam.com).
